Hinkley Point C is the first nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years, which means the pool of people with recent nuclear new-build experience is small and in heavy demand. Our client needed people who had delivered on licensed nuclear sites, and who could operate within the Office for Nuclear Regulation’s (ONR) licensing regime and the project’s strong UK skills and supply-chain commitments.
Nuclear roles carry requirements that general construction roles don’t: nuclear quality assurance codes, safety-culture track record, security vetting and, for many positions, an ability to bridge international engineering teams with UK regulators, subcontractors and the owner. Getting a hire wrong is expensive, so the bar for screening was higher than on any conventional project.
