Bahrain’s long-awaited Metro project is moving forward, with detailed planning underway for Phase One. The Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry confirmed that the first phase will feature two main lines connecting key residential, commercial, and economic hubs.

  • Line 1: Bahrain International Airport to Seef District
  • Line 2: Juffair to Isa Town’s Educational District

Together, the lines will include 20 stations, including two major interchange hubs at Bahrain Financial Harbour and Manama Central Market, ensuring smooth connectivity across the kingdom.

Transportation Minister Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa described the metro as a “cornerstone project” for modern, sustainable public transport.

“The Bahrain Metro is a cornerstone project aimed at providing a modern, efficient and sustainable public transport system,” he said.
“We are working through detailed planning and integrated procedures to ensure the optimal preparation of the first-phase routes, in coordination with all concerned entities.”

The final cost is still under review, pending detailed designs and market assessments. Bahrain first announced plans for a 109km, fully automated metro system in 2018, to be built in four phases.
